Title: Gosekku (五節句), Ninth Month, Asakusa Okuyama (九月 浅草おく山)
Series: Famous Places in Edo (Edo Meisho) (江戸名所) – The Edo Meisho series specific to fan (団扇) prints.
Depicting the September 9th Choyo-no-Sekku (重陽の節句) Chrysanthemum Festival (菊まつり) at Asakusa (formerly called Okuyama).
Date: 1849-52. Censor seals date 1849-1853.
Publisher: Marukyu (diamond-shaped cartouche).
Medium: Japanese woodblock print.
Condition: Excellent color. Not examined out of frame.
Print size: Horizontal aiban. Woodblock-printed fan portion is 11.5 x 8.5 inches.
Frame size: 20 x 15.75 inches.
Reference notes: Few Edo Meisho series fan prints are known. We could find no record of this particular design. As such, this may be the only extant example.
